Today was spent down the block from SURU at 6812 Melrose Ave. where 30 artists showed up for The Vader Project catalog signing. The turnout was huge, and some notable artists present were AXIS, Estevan Oriol, Jesse Hernandez, Paul Frank and our own Joe Hahn.
Afterwards AXIS, EO and I grabbed late lunch across the street from the venue.
The Los Angeles Auction Preview is open daily from Noon until 6:00 p.m. through June 20th. If you haven’t checked out the pieces yet, stop by it’s free and worth the time.
The Hoverboard is a project made by Nils guadagnin, a young french artist. This work is born in 2008 for an exhibition named “Back To the future”. It is a copy of the hoverboard from the movie Back to the Future II. Integrated into the board and the plinth is an electromagnetic system which levitates the board. A laser system stabilises the object in the air.
For the next week we will have six of the 100 customized Darth Vader helmets of The Vader Project displayed at SURU. All 100 helmets will we up for auction at Freeman’s Philadelphia Auction on July 10 of this year. To help promote the auction SURU and a handful of select retailers are displaying a few of the pieces prior to the Los Angeles preview that will take place between June 12th through the 20th at 6812 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles CA 90036. Opening reception will be Friday June 11th from 6pm to 10pm at this same location.

We at SURU, including artist’s Joseph Hahn and Jeff McMillan would like to extend our sincerest apologies to the rightful owners of the world famous SMURF name, mark and character owners. The unauthorized use of their intellectual property was used without knowledge or consent; in the recent production of the Print entitled “Rome Wasn’t Built In A Day.” Furthermore, the infringing Print violated the valuable rights associated with SMURF family of names, marks and characters. The nature of the print was neither expressed nor implied by the owners, and was interpreted by the artists and not the rightful owners. Any and all remaining Prints have been destroyed and will no longer be sold or produced.

To comemorate Bruce Lee’s 70th birthday celebration which is later this year, The Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival will be hosting several activities in honor of this iconic figure. Some of the activities include film screenings and panel discussions featuring Bruce Lee’s own family members, as well as celebrities including our own Joseph Hahn. The tribute will begin today April 30th through Sunday May 2nd at the DGA, Madang the Courtyard, and Laemmie’s Sunset 5.
