KEITH HARING'S NEW YORK MURAL RESTORED

Many people know who Keith Haring is, and if some people don’t, they are more than likely to have seen his signature art work before. A mural in the Lower East Side, was recently restored thanks to Keith Haring Foundation; Goldman Properties; and Deitch Projects, the gallery representing Haring’s estate. They commissioned the repainting and scraping of graffiti to reveal traces of K. Haring’s original work. One of Haring’s early protege, Alex Ortiz, aka LA II, his graffiti artist alias put his own signature LA touches and altered all negative spaces with black interlocking patterns and tagged LA II (which stands for Little Angel) repeatedly on the mural. Keith Haring passed away in 1990 due to AIDS. The mural was restored to commemorate his 50th birthday.
