Custom Jackets

Darren Romanelli, a.k.a. Dr. Romanelli, a.k.a. DRx, is a Los Angeles based designer who is known for bringing retro clothing back to life. Since 1999 the doctor, by his fictitious name, has used his scalpel to reconstruct retro jackets and other apparel into customized one off pieces. Romanelli says, “When I look at a piece of vintage, there’s that energy that captured the essence of those years.” Now a full service designer, Romanelli is intimately involved with all levels of a project’s development, from inception to display to promotion. His theory behind his vintage inspirations is, “If there’s a story there, I want to flip it and introduce it in a new way to the world.”

  1. I think people look like tools when they wear clothing with military ranks on it. I’ve earned the right to wear Senior Airmen stripes, with service to our country… It’s a shame to see them on a jacket that looks like it came from goodwill.
